Q: Why might I want to work with a Holistic Health Counselor?
A: If you are finally ready to get serious about your health and wellness and realize that you need to take things into your own hands, an HHC may be for you. An HHC will guide you through this process lending support, knowledge and accountability as you create your nourished life.

Q: What types of people can benefit from working with a Holistic Heath Counselor?
A: There are many types of people who could benefit greatly from working with a HHC. If you answer yes to any of the questions below, you may be one of them. Do you want to eat right, but are confused by the mixed messages put out by the media and medical community? Are you an emotional eater who has unexplainable cravings, resulting in weight gain and diminished energy over the years? Are you an athlete who wants to fine tune their performance, and more importantly, protect your body from the stresses that intense exercise can put on it? All of these and many more are reasons to work with a certified Holistic Health Counselor.

Q: But I love {insert favorite food here}, will I have to give it up completely?
A: No (with a few exceptions). Living a healthy, balanced life Is not about deprivation. It is about balance, consuming in moderation, and creating a diet in which the majority consist of nutritious whole foods. You will start craving this way of eating once you switch to it, so the foods you think you ďcanít live withoutĒ will begin to lose their hold.

Q: I donít have time to cook, can I still benefit from working with an HHC?
A: Absolutely. Although whenever possible we recommend preparing your own food to ensure its quality, this does not have to require hours in the kitchen, or even turning on the stove. Not to mention, if you do your research and learn what to shop for at the market, where to eat out, and what to order off the menu, you can reap many of the same benefits of eating home cooked meals made with whole foods. But keep in mind, even busy people can prepare their own food if theyíre organized and have learned the right tips and tricks.

Q: Iím afraid I canít afford your program, but would like to benefit from your services, what other options do you offer beyond your 6 month program?
A: First Iíd ask you to consider whether you can afford not to do this program. Imagine how much more time and energy you would have to live your life if you werenít always tired, in pain, foggy headed, or just plain sick. Removing these things from your life is priceless. That said, we all have a budget to work within, so if the 6 month program is not feasible for you at this time, stay tuned for an online version of our program coming soon. This program will be administered electronically and will help you to start heading in the right direction toward achieving life balance. We also offer group classes, both in person and through tele-classes at very reasonable rates. Finally, this website will be a wealth of information for you through itís/ blogs, podcasts, and event postings. Q: I want to lose weight; will an HHC help me to do this?
A: Our programs are not weight loss programs. With that said, each program is individualized based on the clientís personal situation and goals. We find that once you achieve life balance in both nutrition and the other aspects of your life, the body naturally gets to its ideal weight. On request, we can work with clients on a short term ďkick startĒ diet, but the ultimate goal of the programs are to teach clients how to live a healthy, balanced, nourished life that is sustainable over the long term.

Q: I have a serious illness/medical condition (e.g. cancer). Can you still help me?
A: We may would be happy to help you with as many aspects of your life that we can, however we want to make it clear that our services are not meant to substitute for the advice and counsel your doctor or other licensed medical professional provides you with. It is important that you continue to receive ongoing professional medical treatment to address your specific condition.

Q: What is the difference between a holistic health counselor, and a dietitian?
A: Dietitians help promote good health through proper eating. They also supervise the preparation and service of food, develop modified diets, participate in research, and educate individuals and groups on good nutritional habits. (Adapted from Wikipedia definition)

A Holistic Health Counselor (HHC) is an individual who has received formal training accredited by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners (AADP). Most HHCís are board certified by the AADP. An HHC has been trained in a multitude of dietary and nutritional theories, from Ayurvedic to Macrobiotic, to Chinese Medicine, and nearly everything in between. This gives them the ability to help their clients make food and lifestyle choices that work best with their unique needs. In addition, HHCís are not just concerned with food. They are also concerned with all other aspects of a personís life that make them whole. From relationships, to career choices, to physical activity, to spirituality, to creativity, HHCís address all of these areas of a personís life to help them create balance and harmony.

Q: Six months seems like a long time! Is there any reason why the program canít be shortened?
A: Six months may seem like a significant amount of time, and relatively speaking, it is. However, the program is designed this way so that you and your HHC can take the time required to make meaningful, lasting changes in your life. This is accomplished by progressing in small steps. Over time, all of the small positive changes you make during the six months will add up to a significant transformation in your lifestyle. We have found that this is ensures that our clients will continue to practice the skills they acquired through the program.
